Baxter (NYSE:BAX) said today it will integrate its DoseEdge Pharmacy workflow manager with the Epic Willow Impatient Pharmacy system.
The Deerfield, Ill.-based company said that the bi-directional integration between the dedicated intravenous workflow system and electronic medical records to help hospitals meet compliance requirements with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and other payors.
“Every time a pharmacist compounds a patient dose of medication in the pharmacy clean room, the DoseEdge System collects data on each ingredient, and can send this information directly to the patient’s medical record, where it can be accessed by the hospital billing system. This integration will help save clinicians time and ensure accuracy, and represents a straightforward way for hospitals to satisfy their pharmacy safety, efficiency and revenue cycle needs,” medication delivery GM David Ferguson said in a press release.
Baxter’s DoseEdge pharmacy workflow manager is a software solution designed to integrate medication preparation hardware to automate routing, inspecting, tracking and reporting on IV and oral liquid medication doses. With the new integration, inbound medication doses will be delivered from Epic to the DoseEdge system, the company said.
