The company also expanded its compatibility with Abbott sensors, adding the option of pairing Omnipod 5 with FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus.
Acton, Massachusetts-based Insulet won FDA clearance for its algorithm enhancements in December 2025. The updates to Omnipod 5, the first FDA-cleared tubeless, wearable automated insulin delivery patch pump, include a new benchmark in tubeless diabetes technology with a lower, 100 mg/dL target glucose option. It also delivers a more seamless automated experience.
Insulet labeled the update its most significant algorithm advancement since the Omnipod 5 launch in 2022. It adds more personalization and flexibility to fine-tune care with six settings from 100-150 mg/dL. The algorithm also enables users to stay in automated mode with fewer interruptions, even during prolonged high glucose events.
To bring the update to users as soon as possible, Insulet said it began shipping compatible pods in to U.S. retail channels ahead of the launch. Omnipod 5 users will receive an over-the-air software update through their Omnipod 5 Controller or mobile app.
On top of the Omnipod 5 algorithm update, Insulet said the system is now compatible with the Libre 3 Plus sensor with the availability for caregivers to follow patients through the Abbott LibreLinkup app in the U.S. This gives users more sensor choice, the company said. Insulet plans to roll out the integrated offering internationally later this year.
Eric Benjamin, EVP and COO, said:
“Delivering innovations that make diabetes management easier is at the heart of everything we do. These enhancements deliver what users tell us matters most—smarter automation, more personalization, better control, and expanded choice. By offering a lower target glucose option and expanding sensor compatibility, we’re helping people spend less time making decisions about diabetes and more time feeling confident, supported, and in control.”
