B. Braun launched an app yesterday for its Easypump ST/LT elastomeric infusion pump to help patients and clinicians use the system more safely and efficiently for home infusion therapy.
The Easypump app features graphics and videos that explain the infusion therapy process, B. Braun said, and provides nurses with tools to teach patients how to properly use and manage the pump system.
The Bethlehem, Penn.-based company said it believes that an aging population and a rise in chronic conditions will contribute to a forecasted increase in home infusion in the years ahead.
“B. Braun designed this app as a resource to help infusion therapy nurses teach patients how to safely administer the Easypump in the comfort of their own homes,” Mike Connelly, director of marketing for elastomeric infusion systems, said in prepared remarks. “Home infusion is a cost-effective and convenient alternative for many patients who otherwise would have a complicated electronic pump to manage or a need to travel to an inpatient or outpatient facility.”
B. Braun’s Easypump ST/LT is a disposable pump that stretches as it fills and contracts when it empties. The elastomeric membrane uses positive pressure to infuse medication in a steady, controlled flow, the company said.
The device’s clear silicone elastomeric material allows nurses and clinicians to look for contaminants after filling.
In February, B. Braun integrated its Outlook large-volume infusion pump with Iatric Systems‘ Accelero Connect integration software. The technology enables the pump to communicate with electronic health record systems, such as Meditech.
