Sava Technologies today announced the appointment of John Bernard as its new chief commercial officer (CCO).
London-based Sava, which develops a minimally invasive molecular sensing platform for continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), says the appointment marks a “decisive step” in its transition from clinical and technical progress to commercial execution.
The company designed its multi-molecule biosensor to detecting biomarkers just beneath the skin in real-time. This proprietary technology powers the company’s first product, a pain-free CGM. The CGM streamlines molecular insights in real-time to a user’s phone. Sava says its proprietary CGM could offer a replacement for traditional, filament-based sensors.
With a $19 million Series A raised last year, the company shared the first 10-day clinical evidence for the technology earlier this year.
Bernard joins the company with more than two decades of international commercial leadership across healthcare and technology. He spent seven years at Dexcom, a leading CGM maker, as a core member of its EMEA executive leadership team. There, he co-created the Dexcom ONE offering and held responsibility for the global launch of the G7 sensor.
Prior to Dexcom, Bernard spent time in senior positions at Siemens, LG, Mozilla and Sony.
Sava says Bernard brings category experience and a track record with international execution as the company looks to build its market strategy around the CGM market opportunity and convert momentum into long-term commercial scale.
Commentary from Sava officials
Renato Circi, co-founder and co-CEO at Sava, said:
“John’s appointment marks a shift in philosophy at Sava as we move our focus from the design phase to bringing our platform to people worldwide. Sava hasn’t set out to launch ‘another CGM.’ We’ve spent years engineering something fundamentally different: a more elevated user experience delivering deeper insights that go beyond glucose alone. Designed around what people want, not just what they clinically need. John helped bring CGM to market when it was still a completely new way of sensing. Now, he’ll help bring to life the next generation of monitoring. Something new. Something better.”
John Bernard added:
“Across Europe and beyond, there is strong demand for truly differentiated platforms built for long-term scale. Our focus now is disciplined execution, converting this early traction into commercial partnerships and bringing Sava’s next-generation microsensing technology to people living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.”
