Dr. David Segal takes over for Dr. Robert Vigersky, who will now move into an emeritus position after holding the title of CMO since 2019 — back when the newly independent company served as Medtronic’s diabetes division.
Segal was most recently medical director of innovation and remote monitoring care at Parkview Health’s Mirro Center for Research and Innovation in Indiana. While there, according to MiniMed, he helped launch a pediatric endocrinology service, and previously established South Africa’s largest diabetes and endocrinology practice.
Segal also co-founded Guidepost, a Johannesburg-based digital health provider of diabetes telecoaching services.
“I’ve spent much of my career looking at how we can use technology and data to make diabetes care more proactive, personalized and accessible,” Segal said in a statement. “What excites me about MiniMed is the opportunity to bring that thinking into the development of technologies that can reduce the daily burden of managing diabetes and help more people achieve better outcomes.”

MiniMed fully completed its split from Medtronic last month, after the medtech giant sold off its remaining stake in the diabetes tech company. October also saw MiniMed announce a new board of directors.
“Dr. Segal brings deep clinical expertise and a passion for using technology to improve diabetes care,” said CEO Que Dallara. “His experience and perspective will be invaluable as we continue delivering strong clinical outcomes with our technologies and advancing our innovation pipeline. We’re excited to welcome him to MiniMed and grateful for the strong foundation Dr. Vigersky has established.”
