Dexcom (Nasdaq:DXCM) announced today that Health Canada authorized its G7 15 Day continuous glucose monitor (CGM) system.

Health Canada approval covers people 18 years and older living with diabetes. It brings the G7 15 Day, its longest-lasting wearable sensor, to Canada, with the system already possessing FDA clearance.

G7 15 Day delivers several features of the existing G7 platform. That includes a waterproof sensor, connectivity to the Apple Watch, plus automated activity, simplified meal and new medication logging. Its 12-hour grace period allows a seamless transition when replacing sensors as well. The system also features customizable alert settings for improved discretion and personalized diabetes management. Users can view glucose patterns, trends and statistics in a simple mobile app and share metrics with caregivers and loved ones.

The system provides real-time glucose readings for 15.5 days, with a mean absolute relative difference (MARD) of 8% and easier glucose management thanks to fewer sensor changes and reduced waste.

“Small improvements can make a meaningful difference for people living with diabetes. Dexcom G7 15 Day reflects our ongoing commitment to simpler, more seamless diabetes management,” said André Côté, VP and GM, Dexcom Canada.

Dexcom notes that, despite Health Canada authorization, G7 15 Day is not yet available for purchase.

“Our focus is on ensuring that when the product becomes available, Canadians living with diabetes and their healthcare providers have the support, education, and experience they need from day one,” said Côté. “We look forward to sharing more details as we move closer to availability.”
