In a LinkedIn post, the China-based company touted its new solution for eliminating the need for carb counting for people with type 1 diabetes. It hopes to reduce the guesswork in mealtime decisions for people with diabetes, who often require counting, adjusting and hoping.
The company’s TouchCare Nano automated insulin delivery (AID) system features Auto Meal Handling, a solution for simplifying mealtime. Instead of calculating carbohydrates, users can log their meal. The AID system responds dynamically to the logging, adjusting insulin delivery based on real-time glucose trends. Other notable AID systems, including the MiniMed 780G and Flex, feature similar Meal Detection Technology.
At ATTD 2026, results from a study of 95 subjects over six months demonstrated 75% time in range for those relying on AutoMeal for more than 70% of their meals. Investigators saw no increased risk of hypoglycemia, regardless of the frequency of the feature’s use. Glycemic stability also remained consistent across all groups.
“The implication is profound,” Medtrum said on LinkedIn. “High-performance glucose control no longer has to come at the cost of high cognitive effort. We are moving away from a world of manual inputs and toward a future of “intelligent intuition.” It’s about making the technology invisible so the person can stay present.”
TouchCare Nano, Medtrum’s hybrid closed-loop automated insulin delivery system, allows for 24/7 therapy delivery. Users can auto-adjust basal delivery and auto-deliver corrections for high glucose. Users can operate the pump from their smartphone without the need for a separate personal diabetes manager, while the system integrates with Medtrum’s own continuous glucose monitor (CGM) to enable automated delivery. Additionally, users can customize their glucose targets to increase their time in range.
Current patch pump market leader Insulet — with whom Medtrum has battled in patent spats — offers its latest-generation Omnipod 5 pump holds 200 units of insulin. MiniMed says the MiniMed Fit patch pump it currently has under development would also hold 300 units.
