NuGen Medical Devices announced recently that it launched its InsuJet needle-free insulin delivery device in Canada.
The company initiated its launch on Nov. 15 — the day after World Diabetes Day. It received an initial order for 2,500, then a second order for 750 units of InsuJet starter kits and consumables. That represents revenue of $670,000, according to a news release.
InsuJet — approved for sale in 42 countries — uses a simple, powerful spring-loaded mechanism. Following pressure build-up, the device releases the drug as a fine jet stream of liquid, fast enough to penetrate the skin through a microscopic entrance. It dispenses the drug safely and evenly in less than one-tenth of a second with virtually no pain and no mark on the skin.
NuGen said leading pharmacy networks across Canada have InsuJet supply through major distributors. Those include McKesson Canada, Khol & Frisch Distributors, Imperial Distributors and UniPharm Distribution. They provide all 12,000 pharmacies across Canada access to InsuJet, the company said.
“We are extremely excited to be taking NuGen to a new level of distribution globally to manage diabetes and the delivery of insulin needle-free. As the birthplace of Insulin, Canada represents another great place for us with the rest of the world to follow with InsuJet approved for use in 42 countries,” said Karen Dunlap, NuGen interim CEO. “We are combining our technical IP experience with our distributor’s commercial and clinical strategies to support this strong growth.”
