The company shared at last month’s American Diabetes Association’s 85th Scientific Sessions in Chicago that it planned to begin the launch of the highly anticipated twiist system. The initial launch comes with the Abbott FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus continuous glucose monitor (CGM) on July 7. With that launch underway, the Manchester, New Hampshire-based company has plans laid out for the next phases of the rollout.
With July marking the start of the launch, twiist will have expanded availability in the U.S. in August. Sequel then anticipates full national availability by the end of the year, a spokesperson told Drug Delivery Business News via email today.
Sequel also inked a deal with Senseonics to pair the AID system with the Eversense 365 year-long implantable CGM. It expects to make that compatibility available in the next few months, the spokesperson said.
“This thoughtful, phased approach ensures a seamless experience with high-quality, strong clinical onboarding, user support, and provider readiness to match the strong interest twiist has already received following the announced collaborations with Abbott and Senseonics,” the spokesperson explained.

Sequel built its twiist system on underlying drug delivery technology developed by DEKA R&D. Dean Kamen, co-founder of Sequel and founder of DEKA, commercialized the first wearable insulin pump for diabetes and last year said the twiist system “represents the next generation of insulin delivery.” Sequel won FDA clearance for twiist in March 2024.
Combined with the twiist Loop algorithm, the pump directly measures the volume of insulin delivered with every microdose. It offers the capability and flexibility to address each patient’s individual dosing needs. Sequel’s system utilizes sound waves that measure each pulse of insulin. This enables precision and helps understand exactly how much insulin the patient receives in a dose.
twiist features iiSure technology, which includes four checkpoints to provide accurate delivery and alert users to blockages quickly. Cleared for ages six and up with type 1 diabetes, the system offers a personalized way to manage the condition.
In addition to the Libre 3 Plus and Eversense 365 pairings, Sequel has another compatibility update lined up for the future. The company inked a deal with Abbott agreed with Abbott to pair twiist with the medtech giant’s future dual glucose-ketone sensor.
