New investor Innovation Industries led the round with matching participation from existing investors Partners in Equity and Invest-NL. EQT Life Sciences and Health Innovations also provided its continued support in the round.
Utrecht, The Netherlands-based ViCentra plans to use the funds to accelerate manufacturing scale, launch its next-generation Kaleido 2 insulin patch pump in Europe and prepare for U.S. market entry.
Kaleido, described by the company as the smallest, lightest and most precise insulin patch pump in its class, offers premium materials and customizable aluminum shells in 10 color options to deliver the feel of personal technology rather than a traditional medical device. It integrates with Diabeloop’s self-learning automated insulin delivery algorithm and Dexcom’s leading continuous glucose monitors (CGMs).
The pump offers users options in terms of wearability and comes with two durable, rechargeable pumps, eliminating the need to dispose of the pump every three days, while the infusion set lasts for that three-day span. The design aims to integrate seamlessly into the user’s daily life.
Users can choose between a short tube for placement as a patch directly on the body or a longer tube for carrying the pump in the pocket. They can pause or take the pump off for intermittent breaks, too.
Kaleido initially won CE mark back in October 2024. Last month, the company announced its plans to launch its next-generation pump in Germany and the Netherlands in early 2026. Early uptake in Germany, France and the Netherlands has driven demand beyond initial expectations, the company said. The cash infusion can help scale the business for rapid revenue acceleration.
“Kaleido is a true disruptor – small, discreet, featherlight, and beautifully designed technology. It empowers people with diabetes by offering a more personal and selective choice in both function and style. Built with understanding and precision, it honors those who live with diabetes every day. With this funding, we can meet surging European demand and accelerate our entry into the U.S. market. This is a pivotal moment for both the company and the community we serve,” said Tom Arnold, CEO at ViCentra.
ViCentra looks to make its mark in the competitive patch pump market
As ViCentra advances Kaleido in Europe and looks toward potential U.S. commercialization, it faces stiff competition in the patch pump market.
Insulet currently leads the market, which also has expected entries from Medtronic, Tandem Diabetes Care and Saint’s Beta Bionics.
PharmaSens earlier this year announced a strategic partnership with SiBionics to jointly develop an all-in-one insulin patch pump.
Meanwhile, U-Pump announced progress with its own system. Modular Medical recently unveiled its own next-generation patch pump that isn’t automated, and Embecta won an FDA nod for its own open-loop patch pump, but discontinued the program not long after. Luna Diabetes last month raised $23.6 million to support its own patch pump system.
