West Pharmaceutical Services (NYSE:WST) announced that it reached an agreement to sell on-body drug delivery technology to AbbVie.

The company agreed to sell all manufacturing and supply rights for the SmartDose 3.5mL on-body system and associated facilities. Exton, Pennsylvania-based West said the deal includes a total consideration of $112.5 million at close. It expects the deal to close in mid-2026.

West said it plans to continue executing on the commercial supply of SmartDose 3.5mL systems prior to close. It also plans to continue the execution of ongoing critical project commitments. Those include the potential for future project payments on the achievement of milestones prior to closing.

The company anticipates that the system’s sales will constitute 4% of revenues in fiscal 2025. It plans to continue to develop and manufacture all other versions of SmartDose. Those include SmartDose 10mL on-body system, an adaptive technology for larger volumes.

“West pioneered the innovation of the on-body delivery device technology for complex injectable medicines, which has improved the lives of people around the world,” said Eric M. Green, President, Chief Executive Officer and Chair of the Board. “As part of our portfolio review, we have determined it is best to transition the SmartDose 3.5mL product to AbbVie. This decision aligns with our ongoing commitment to our customer development pipeline and patient-centric approach for large dose on-body delivery devices to drive durable and profitable growth.”
