Ascensia Diabetes Care announced today that it entered into a global collaboration with diabetes management company Snaq.

Snaq develops an app-based solution offering insights on food and nutrition for people with diabetes. Ascensia develops the Controu blood glucose monitoring system and distributes Senseonics’ Eversense CGM systems. The companies plan to integrate technologies to help with mealtime decisions and improve diabetes management.

Users of the Contour portfolio can integrate Snaq into their diabetes management regimen. Through the Snaq app, users can take a photo of their food and receive nutritional information and actionable insights to facilitate glycemic control. Snaq offers easy-to-read graphs and comparisons to previous meals.

The companies entered into an initial three-year collaboration. It reaches across multiple phases and regions, with a U.S. launch representing the first step. In addition to integration with Contour devices, Snaq meal data can also be shared with Ascensia’s GlucoContro.Online platform. This platform enables users to seamlessly access, analyze and share diabetes data.

“This collaboration is a further step in Ascensia’s mission to simplify diabetes management whilst providing convenient and effective solutions for people with diabetes and their healthcare providers,” said Frank Held, Ascensia head of BGM marketing and strategy. I look forward to working together with SNAQ as we collaborate to bring this valuable tool to more people.”

Snaq CEO Aurelian Briner added that the company aims to take the guesswork out of mealtime glucose control. Collaborating with Ascensia allows the company to support more people in their day-to-day choices.

“Working with Ascensia’s team is an exciting opportunity for SNAQ to grow and continue making a difference for people living with diabetes,” Briner said.
