The next-generation medication dispensing system combines advanced automation and AI insights to modernize medication management. It helps reduce disruptions and improve efficiency while helping clinicians spend more time on patient care.
Franklin Lakes, New Jersey-based BD said its Pyxis Pro solution offers more medication storage capacity in a similar footprint. It aims to improve medication availability from refrigerated to ambient storage. This enables hospitals and health systems to easily adapt to the evolving needs of patient populations.
Additionally, the platform offers enhanced security features to improve controlled substance management and more efficient access. Its RFID badge scanning, wireless barcode scanners and illuminated bins streamline medication retrieval.
Pyxis has been available in the U.S., where the company did face an FDA warning letter for the technology in 2024. Pyxis came to BD through its 2015 acquisition of CareFusion. It will roll out across Europe in the months ahead, BD said.
The company plans to launch the AI-powered Incada analytics platform in European hospitals and health systems next year as well. It built the platform on AWS on-demand cloud computing infrastructure. The platform uses the latest in AI technologies, like natural language search in analytics. It has scalability to meet the data volumes created by nearly 3 million smart connected BD devices.
Incada provides access to enterprise-wide visibility into medication inventory and user-customizable dashboards. It helps clinicians identify patterns and ensure medication availability, reduce medication waste and improve labor efficiency.
Esteban Rossi, vice president and general manager for Medication Management Solutions, EMEA at BD, said:
“BD’s innovations in medication management are setting a new standard for unified, data-driven healthcare operations. Delivering the BD Pyxis Pro Dispensing Solution and BD Incada Platform directly to European hospitals empowers our customers to strengthen medication availability, improve efficiency and enhance patient care.”
