Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts announced that it expanded its care options for members with diabetes.
Expanded access includes offering Verily Onduo and other digital offerings, a pilot program to increase medication adherence and more.
“Diabetes is one of the most common health conditions, but it can be difficult to manage,” said Dr. Sandhya Rao, Blue Cross chief medical officer. “Because of its complexity, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. That is why we’re continuing to add resources that will help improve our members’ health and quality of life.”
Verily Onduo helps patients better manage type 1 or type 2 diabetes along with coexisting conditions like hypertension. Blue Cross now offers the virtual care solution to most of its members. The platofrm includes access to an app, care team, dedicated specialists, connected devices like CGMs and more.
“We are very pleased to provide Blue Cross members living with type 1 or type 2 diabetes with more personalized care through Verily’s Onduo program,” said Dr. Vindell Washington, Verily’s chief clinical officer. “Onduo will deliver precision care at scale with the smart deployment of people and technology. We care for a person, not a diagnosis.”
Blue Cross said members also now have access to diabetes mangement support options from Virta Health, Teladoc and Omada.
Additionally, the health plan launched a pilot with Curant Health to improve medication adherence. As part of the pilot, Curant Health plans to reach out to select Medicare Advantage members and their privders to address medication adherence outcomes. Blue Cross plans to collect feedback and data and eventually expand the proram to more members in the future.

We remain committed to identifying and resolving medication adherence barriers in order to improve Blue Cross member’s overall health outcomes,” said Patrick Dunham, Curant Health CEO.
Other options offered by Blue Cross include a dedicated internal clinical team and a new clinical program team for Medicare Advantage members. Blue Cross also offers reimbursements for fitness and weight-loss programs and free glucose monitors for eligible members.
