The new enhancements to the continuous glucose monitor (CGM) aim to transform how users understand their glucose health. Dexcom said it hopes to help Stelo users achieve their long-term health goals through the updates. It plans to launch the new features — including enhanced AI food logging – nationwide in the coming weeks.
Dexcom introduced its AI-powered Smart Food Logging feature for Stelo, the first FDA-cleared over-the-counter (OTC) glucose biosensor, last year. With the feature, the OTC CGM joined the G7 CGM in offering the capability. Smart Food Logging encourages and enables users to log meals more consistently through the use of just a single photo.
Now, Dexcom said it expanded this feature by integrating a comprehensive nutrition database. The database offers a breakdown of calories, carbohydrates, protein, fat, dietary fibers and more for each logged meal. This helps users better understand how food impacts their glucose, informing their dietary decisions.
Dexcom said its database includes more than 1 million food options with multiple ways to log a meal. Those include text search, barcode scanning or photo analysis.
“When we launched Smart Food Logging last summer, our goal was to provide users with a simple and effective way to consistently log meals and understand how those meals had an impact on their glucose,” said Girish Naganathan, EVP and chief technology officer at Dexcom. “We listened closely to the feedback and are excited to further enhance this highly requested feature in Stelo. The latest update will eliminate nutrition tracking friction so users can make informed, health-conscious decisions and achieve health goals with even greater confidence.”

Beyond the AI-powered meal logging, Dexcom also plans to launch a redesigned Daily Insights feature for Stelo. This introduces a new interface with a sophisticated, card-based system.
Users receive up to three personalized recommendations based on their previous day’s glucose, activity, nutrition and sleep data. Each insight highlights key individual metrics and provides contextual understanding.
Dexcom said a fourth card uses behavioral science techniques to help users reflect and act upon their metabolic health insights. This feature uses AI to maintain day-to-day context. The company said it ensures consistent and evolving personalized coaching that adapts to individual patterns and progress.
The latest updates to Stelo continue Dexcom’s progress on the digital front, with the company also recently adding smart basal insulin dosing capabilities to its offerings.
Stelo users can access the enhanced food logging and insights features by updating to the latest version of the app in the coming weeks. The company also has work underway on development and regulatory approvals for a “completely reimagined” Stelo app experience. It expects to launch that later this year.
