Insulet earnings trounce Q3 estimates as it narrows guidance

Insulet’s (Nasdaq: PODD) third quarter outpaced its own expectations and those of Wall Street, boosted by international sales of its Omnipod 5 tubeless insulin pump.

Total revenue reached $842.0 million, for a 19.6% gain over the prior year, topping the company’s previous guidance and analysts’ estimates of $832.6 million. The U.S. haul accounted for $570.4 million, in line with the forecast, while sales outside the country grew 33.0% to $266.2 million, to beat the consensus’ $257.9 million.

Adjusted net income for the quarter came to $138.0 million, up 57.2% compared to last year’s $87.8 million, resulting in an adjusted earnings-per-share of $1.99 that well-surpassed Wall Street’s expected $1.59.

Looking ahead, Insulet aims to continue moving people with diabetes taking multiple daily injections of insulin, or MDI, onto its automated insulin delivery platform, or AID.

“Globally, new customer starts grew low-single digits versus the year-ago period, and year-to-date new customer starts have grown low-double digits,” President and CEO Ashley McEvoy said on the company’s earnings call with investors. “The majority of people with diabetes who convert from MDI to AID choose Omnipod — and over 85% of Omnipod new customer starts come from MDI, demonstrating our success growing the category.”

McEvoy said international new customer starts in the third quarter were balanced between type 1 and type 2 diabetes, while people with type 2 diabetes accounted for over 40% of new starts in the U.S.

“We have not observed an impact from increased GLP-1 use on type 2 new customer starts, and we continue to view GLP-1s as complementary to insulin,” she added.

For the remainder of the calendar, Insulet narrowed its 2026 full-year guidance for international Omnipod sales growth, shrinking it to between 21.5% and 22.5% compared to August’s previously lowered pitch of 21% to 23%.

When including expected continued losses in its drug delivery division, the company-wide range comes to 21% to 22%, versus 20% and 22%. Insulet also maintained its prior EPS prediction of greater than 30% growth for the year.

The company’s stock price dipped briefly on the news in early morning trading, before recovering to about $160 per share.

Insulet also reported completing enrollment in two major clinical studies for its pipeline, including the type 1 diabetes cohort in a trial of its upcoming Omnipod 6, as well as a pivotal study in type 2 diabetes of a closed-loop AID approach. For the latter, the company is aiming to submit the device for FDA review next year, with a commercial debut slated for 2028.

“We believe we are better prepared for the Omnipod 6 launch than we have been for any launch in our history, from customer targeting and marketing to manufacturing and international expansion,” said McEvoy.

“Our fully closed loop system for people with type 2 diabetes is a transformational opportunity to move additional MDI users onto AID,” she added. “It offers people with type 2 diabetes a user-friendly experience nearly identical to CGM with no user boluses or settings required and training completed at home in less than 40 minutes.”

Last month the company also began rolling out its Omnipod Discover data platform to U.S. users, following an international release. The system delivers weekly reports to smartphones, while providers can use glucose data to suggest adjustments to pump settings and bolus events. Insulet previously showed that self-managed users saw their time in a healthy glucose range increase by 3% or more.
