Muzumdar holds responsibility for leading the company’s U.S. and Canada commercial teams, executing the region’s long-term growth strategy. He reports to Chair, President and CEO, Dev Kurdikar, and serves on the Embecta operating team. His appointment went into effect on June 15.
Most recently, Muzumdar served as SVP and head, Generics (Retail, Institutional, Hospitals & Clinics), at Sandoz. At the pharmaceutical company’s $1 billion division, he returned the business to sustained, profitable growth. Following its spinoff from Novartis in 2023, he helped shape the organization’s commercial strategy, culture and operational foundation.
Over the course of more than a decade at Sandoz, he served as director, Generics Oncology & Injectables, executive director, Generics Oncology & Injectables and executive director, Retail Generics. Before Sandoz, Muzumdar held marketing roles of increasing responsibility at Ranbaxy USA, Watson Laboratories and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories.
He joins Embecta amid a shift in priorities toward broader medical applications. In May 2025, the company announced plans to widen its reach as a broad-based medical supplies company providing drug delivery platforms to pharmaceutical companies. The company recently completed an acquisition of drug delivery technology developer Owen Mumford. Its acquisition came amid questions around its future following second-quarter results that the company itself labeled disappointing.
“Embecta is undergoing a transformation as we build on our 100-year legacy as a leader in insulin injection,” said Kurdikar. “Nimish’s wealth of experience in U.S. retail pharmacy and hospital channels combined with his track record of driving growth in the highly competitive generic drugs industry will serve us well as we begin to broaden our portfolio to serve chronic care patients in the obesity, diabetes, autoimmune diseases and anaphylaxis markets.”
