Harvard Apparatus is boasting of the abilities of its Pump 11 Elite Nanomite – a single syringe infusion/withdrawal programmable syringe pump designed for precise point infusion applications.
Researchers used the Pump 11 Elite Nanomite to successfully perform injections into specific sub-regions of the caudate nucleus in the brain. They repeatedly injected a 1 mm diameter target in the caudate nucleus tail, according to Harvard Apparatus (Holliston, Mass.).
Said the company: “This is a first of its kind experiment allowing functionality to be compared within brain regions rather than treating brain regions as a whole. The Harvard Apparatus Pump 11 Elite Nanomite has been successfully used with such high precision, that it is ideal for experiments targeting specific regions relating to Parkinson’s disease (substantia nigra pars compacta) and Alzheimer’s disease (hippocampus).”
