The Pod recycling program, offered at no cost to customers, enables users to request a recycling kit online. This allows them to return their used Omnipods. Insulet then decontaminates the returned Pods before transporting them to a company specializing in recycling for electronics and medical products.
Acton, Massachusetts-based Insulet said the program helps minimize landfill waste and advance its commitment to circular solutions.
“Here at Insulet, our mission is to transform the lives of people with diabetes, and we are equally committed to creating a more sustainable future,” said Carolyn Sleeth, SVP and U.S. GM. “We are proud of the success achieved through our Massachusetts and California Pod recycling pilot programs, which began in 2022 and 2024, and we are excited to now offer Pod recycling to all U.S. customers, reducing waste and minimizing our environmental impact.”
U.S. customers can seamlessly request the recycling kit online. Insulet also has “Pod takeback” programs outside the U.S. in several international markets. These programs enable customers to request a takeback kit by contacting their local customer support team.

Omnipod 5, the company’s latest Pod system, represents the first FDA-cleared tubeless automated insulin delivery system. It communicates with a CGM to proactively correct for glucose highs every five minutes. The system also protect against lows with insulin dosing.
Insulet plans to continue enhancing the system and looking toward next-generation technologies. CEO Ashley McEvoy outlined some of the planned improvements in a recent interview with Drug Delivery Business News, while she and other Insulet leaders expanded on those plans during the company’s recent Investor Day event.
