Sayer notified the San Diego-based continuous glucose monitor (CGM) maker of his plan to return on Feb. 27, 2026. His return went into effect today, March 2, 2026, according to the filing. Upon his return, Sayer resumed his duties and responsibilities as executive chair. Mark Foletta resumed his duties as lead independent director after serving as interim chair in Sayer’s absence.
In September 2025, Dexcom shared that Sayer stepped down from his duties as CEO at the time and as board chair to take a medical leave of absence. The company had already announced a planned CEO transition in July 2025. Sayer’s leave saw Jake Leach assume the role early in an interim capacity, before he officially took over the corner office at the start of 2026.
(Drug Delivery Business News recently spoke with Leach about Dexcom’s 2026 roadmap. Read about that here.)
Dexcom’s transition plan intended for Sayer to remain as the company’s executive chair before the leave of absence temporarily changed matters.
Sayer’s return to the board comes just days after Dexcom announced a new board member. Last week, the company announced that it added Google SVP, Platforms and Devices, Rick Osterloh, to its board as well.
