Modular Medical to initiate first phase of Pivot pump launch in October

August 4, 2026 By Sean Whooley

Modular Medical (Nasdaq:MODD) announced its plans to initiate the first phase of the launch of its Pivot tubeless insulin patch pump.

Pivot, designed to make insulin pump therapy simpler to learn and easier to live with, features a removable, two-part design and a 3 mL reservoir, intuitive interface and flexible, wearable form factor. The system aims to support everyday activities, like showering and sports, with no battery charging required, all while maintaining clinical accuracy and connectivity.

FDA 510(k) clearance arrived for Pivot in April. Modular Medical labels it the second fully electronic, tubeless insulin pump available in the U.S. It began preparations for a launch in June. The company wants to target people on multiple daily injections (MDI) that it labels “almost-pumpers.”

San Diego-based Modular Medical plans to roll out Pivot across five strategically selected U.S. markets in October. The initial rollout includes Atlanta, Cincinnati/Lexington, Dallas, Houston and Philadelphia.

Modular Medical said its full commercial launch follows an analysis of national insurance claim, prescription and market adoption data. It selected the five launch regions based on a concentration of high-value diabetes prescribers, new insulin pump adoption activity and high populations of patients currently managing diabetes with MDI.

The company believes its initial launch should help establish a commercial foundation and generate meaningful insights. It hopes to use those insights to support rapid, cost-effective future expansion. The company partnered with Inizio to support the commercial rollout as well.

Modular Medical CEO Jeb Besser said:

“Launching Pivot in these five markets represents a critical first step in our commercialization strategy. Despite meaningful advances in insulin pump technology, millions of people who rely on multiple daily injections have yet to adopt pump therapy because existing options can be perceived as too complex, burdensome, expensive, or difficult to integrate into everyday life. Pivot was developed to address these barriers by delivering a simpler insulin delivery experience designed around the needs of both the patients and providers.

“Partnering with Inizio strengthens our ability to execute a focused and efficient launch strategy. Their proven track record, diabetes expertise, and ability to deliver integrated commercialization support make them an ideal partner as we continue to introduce Pivot to patients, providers, and health systems.”
