Roche and IBM recently announced the development of an AI-enabled solution to predict glucose levels through continuous glucose monitors (CGMs).

Together, the companies developed the AI-based Accu-Chek SmartGuide Predict app. They said in a news release that they launched the solution in Switzerland earlier this year.

Roche first unveiled its Accu-Chek SmartGuide in an event at the 2024 Advanced Technologies & Treatments for Diabetes (ATTD) conference. It won CE mark for the AI-powered CGM in July 2024. With the Predict app, users can better manage their glycemic control. It uses predictive algorithms informed by real-time glucose values and delivers insights to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia.

The AI features help provide actionable information, utilizing real-time CGM sensor data and user-entered information. It has three key predictive functionalities that show state-of-the-art accuracy and performance.

Glucose Predict, a continuous forecast, visualizes glucose ranges over the next two hours. Low Glucose Predict serves as a continuous watchdog for hypoglycemia, warning users up to 30 minutes before a hypoglycemic event occurs. Night Low Predict estimates the risk of hypoglycemia during the seven-hour night before people with diabetes go to bed. It evaluates the need for any preventive measures to consider before falling asleep.
