Authorization allows users of the t:slim X2 automated insulin delivery system to deliver a bolus from their compatible smartphone. They can also wirelessly upload pump data to the cloud-based Tandem Source platform.
Tandem — one of the largest diabetes tech companies in the world — develops the t:slim X2 and miniature Mobi automated insulin pump systems. It expects to roll out the app in Canada later this year.

The Tandem t:slim mobile app offers a secure, user-friendly interface that displays pump information on a personal smartphone. In addition to bolus delivery and cancellation capabilities, it displays the last 24 hours of glucose trends, pump status changes and insulin therapy data. That includes basal and bolus deliveries as well as suspensions of insulin delivery.
Additionally, the app displays pump alerts and alarms and securely uploads data into the cloud-based Tandem Source platform wirelessly. Tandem says the t:slim X2 pump still functions independently from the app. This allows the user the freedom to view pump therapy data, program requests and cancel or stop bolus insulin requests from their pump.
Tandem plans to offer the mobile app for compatible smartphones in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store later this year.
