AdvaMed announced today that it named Dexcom President and CEO Jake Leach as the new chair for the AdvaMed Diabetes Sector.

Leach succeeds Abbott EVP of Diabetes Care, Chris Scoggins, in the position. Eric Benjamin, Insulet’s EVP and COO, will serve as the vice chair for the medical device industry association’s Diabetes Sector, which represents the world’s leading companies producing technology across the spectrum of diabetes care.

“Chris led the AdvaMed Diabetes Sector with a clear focus on the patients and families who depend on these technologies every day,” AdvaMed President and CEO Scott Whitaker said. “At a time of rapid innovation and important policy conversations around access and affordability, his leadership helped strengthen our voice and advance solutions that empower people with diabetes to live healthier, fuller lives.”

AdvaMed continues to round out its leadership team after naming Resmed CEO Mick Farrell as board chair this year and appointing Melissa Torres as its new EVP of technology and regulatory affairs earlier this month.

Leach takes over as chair of the Diabetes Sector with more than two decades in the diabetes technology industry at Dexcom.

(Drug Delivery Business News recently spoke with Leach about Dexcom’s 2026 roadmap. Read about that here.)

“Jake brings decades of experience advancing patient-centered diabetes care and driving innovation across the medtech industry,” said Whitaker. “The AdvaMed Diabetes Sector plays a critical role in advocating for policies that expand access to diabetes technologies, improve patient outcomes, and support equitable care for all patients. Thank you, Jake, for your willingness to lead in this important role.”

In more than 22 years at Dexcom, Leach has led teams responsible for developing multiple generations of continuous glucose monitors (CGMs). Those include the current-generation G7 and Stelo over-the-counter offerings. He joined the company in 2004 to lead the development of sensor electronics for its first commercial CGMs.

In July, Leach was tapped to take the CEO role permanently at the start of this year as part of Dexcom’s planned succession process. He took over a few months early as outgoing CEO Kevin Sayer took a leave of absence in September. Leach officially became the permanent CEO on Jan. 1, 2026.

“It is an honor to serve as chair of the AdvaMed Diabetes Sector,” Leach said. “I look forward to collaborating with the diabetes sector member companies to advance innovation in diabetes care, ensure people can access life-changing technologies, and continue advocating for policies that prioritize health outcomes.”
