The San Diego-based continuous glucose monitor (CGM) maker broke ground on the facility in January 2024. It said in 2023 that it expected to invest $325 million in Athenry. Last month, an Irish construction company said it completed work on the facility, putting the finishing touches on a 25-month program.
Dexcom previously said it expected the facility to bring more than 1,000 jobs to the area. The company says its investment represented one of the biggest single private sector investments ever in the West of Ireland. Dexcom is not the only CGM maker to break ground in Ireland, as Abbott opened its Kilkenny FreeStyle Libre manufacturing plant in April 2024.

The plant marks Dexcom’s first manufacturing facility outside the U.S. It will develop and manufacture Dexcom’s real-time CGMs, led by the latest-generation G7.
“Our new home is officially open and it’s already buzzing with energy,” the company said in a LinkedIn post today. “From breaking ground in January 2024 to today, this state‑of‑the‑art facility rooted in the West of Ireland has come to life, thanks to the incredible people and passion behind it.
“This is more than just a factory, it’s a place where careers grow, people unite with a shared commitment to improving the lives of those living with diabetes worldwide, and where meaningful impact is made every single day.”
