The company plans to unveil Smart Basal and present new continuous glucose monitor (CGM) data at the 61st annual European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) Conference in Vienna, Austria, this week.

San Diego-based Dexcom designed its Smart Basal module to make basal insulin titration and management easier for users. The technology is currently under both FDA and CE mark review.

Dexcom — one of the largest diabetes tech companies in the world — plans to present several abstracts during EASD. Those abstracts showcase clinical and real-world evidence supporting the benefits of its glucose biosensing systems.
Key highlights include glycemic control and pregnancy outcomes from the GRACE open-label, international, randomized controlled trial. It evaluates CGM use in women with gestational diabetes, demonstrating a reduced risk of babies being born large for their gestational age. The study also showed better glycemic control compared to women with gestational diabetes using fingersticks.
Other findings included the effects of pre- and post-meal exercise in pregnant women with type 1 diabetes. CGM data identified how pregnant women can optimize their glucose excursions around meals with exercise.
Additionally, the company reports that real-time CGM vs. hourly point-of-care testing in diabetic ketoacidosis can prove safe and effective for hospitalized adults, reducing the need for point-of-care glucose tests. Dexcom also plans to share findings demonstrating the cost-effectiveness of CGM for people with type 2 diabetes on insulin therapies in Japan.
