MiniMed (Nasdaq:MMED) announced today that it received approval in Canada for new software for its MiniMed 780G system.

Health Canada authorization allows the company to deliver the MiniMed 780G automated insulin delivery system with both its Guardian 4 and Simplera Sync continuous glucose monitor (CGM) sensors. Additionally, the system now has compatibility with Fiasp insulin and an indication for adults 18 years and older with type 2 diabetes.

Altogether, it combines the latest sensor technology with the company’s Meal Detection and SmartGuard algorithms. MiniMed 780G’s adaptive SmartGuard algorithm automatically anticipates, adjusts and corrects glucose every five minutes. Meal Detection technology automatically detects rising glucose and adjusts insulin to help keep levels in range.

The FDA cleared Simplera Sync for use with 780G about a year ago. The. next-generation disposable, all-in-one sensor requires no fingersticks or overtape. It works with SmartGuard technology and features a simple, two-step insertion process. Meanwhile, the company said it remains the only system compatible with the world’s first seven-day infusion set. This reduces changes and delivers fewer injections than multiple daily injection (MDI) insulin therapy.

MiniMed plans to launch the 780G with Simplera Sync in Canada later this year.

“This license is a milestone for the diabetes community here in Canada,” said Chet Patel, senior business director. “At MiniMed, our mission is to make every day a better day for people with diabetes. By continuing to evolve the MiniMed™ 780G system – including the addition of our Simplera Sync™ sensor and indication for adults 18 and older with Type 2 – we’re closer to that vision than ever before.”
